Health and Wellness on the Road
Hitting the road as 60-something slowmads, has been a rollercoaster ride of face-palm and jaw-dropping moments. Life's a mixed bag, but in our random nomadic escapades, we've learned that maintaining tip-top shape is the key to avoid becoming walking emojis of stress and exhaustion.
The Daily Bread
Exploring local markets for fresh produce has always been a cherished routine as we love to indulge in the culinary richness of each destination. But our quest for a health-conscious lifestyle is like trying to follow a GPS with a mind of its own.
Sometimes, finding fresh produce came with insect and bird ratings like in the Caribbean Grenadines where veggies were like communal snacks for the wildlife.
And cooking for six in the USVI on a yacht in a small galley with minimal gear? Cue our culinary heroics!
In Bali, street food beat ingredient shopping and turned us into fearless connoisseurs.
But it is in the homeland, South Africa, where we are constantly astounded by the first-class quality and abundance of local fresh produce. (Shout-out to our resilient farmers!)
Zero sugar - difficult with not only one sweet tooth but a mouthfull - and the blood type diet are guidelines we try to follow.
The Daily Hustle
To fight off the keyboard potato syndrome, we've adopted the daily stroll - meandering through scenic landscapes while exploring and happily clicking at everything that looks interesting. That’s how we like getting to know places and its people.
However, strolling wasn’t enough, and we had to start dragging the olde bones into workouts with stretches, weights and bands, to music slightly louder than the unoiled creaky joints.
We ignore mirrors but feel fantastic.
Our Workspace
Discipline is our superhero against chaos. And flexible schedules also ensure we don't slink into a bottomless overworked expanse. Hours in front of laptops can wreak havoc on the chassis, hence the burnout prevention of a cup of tea or glass of wine and some chill time.
Our workspaces? They've seen it all—coffee tables with cushions on the floor, camping chairs at folding tables, breakfast nooks and couches etc.
But hammocks overlooking the ocean? We can't wrap our heads around that one. How do people stay focused with laptops and cocktails in the breeze? How I wish though!
The Rest of the Journey
Our mission? To keep this road trip of life light, funny, and packed with stories. The road isn't just for exploration; it's for nurturing our bodies and souls. Who says 60-something oldmads can't be a delightful blend of wisdom and whimsy?
So, buckle up, fellow travellers; the adventure continues, fuelled by grins and giggles, fresh produce, and the occasional creaky moves.
After all, life's too short for a dull road trip!
